These delish cupcakes were left over from a special shoot I was working on all Saturday for an upcoming magazine feature (can’t wait to share more of that with you soon!) They were whipped up by Charlotte at Indulge Me Cupcakes who I met at a recent Confetti Fair styling workshop – just another one of those awesome moments when you click with lovely people at an event and think all is great in the world!
I am so in love with this pastel-y stripe paper from Rifle Paper Co that I picked up at Paper2 in Surry Hills, I think it might be my all time fave actually, especially when paired with a bit of gold for good measure. I was actually playing around with it for a different project on Sunday which turned out to be a big fat flop. I had grand plans for a pineapple shaped gift box using the paper as colourful leaves at the top of the pineapple, and well lets just say it looked more like some kind of swizzle stick… or an ‘asian flower’ as my boyfriend so kindly let me know (?!) Anyway, the failures of Sunday’s craft sesh weren’t going to get me down as I had cupcakes at my disposal, which meant 3 for my face and a few for a photo op, and so, these feathery friends were born – a fun and simple topper for your cakes. I am partial to a good boho-tribal theme and would love to one day go all out and dress a party table with feathers and foliage – one day!
The steps to create these feathers don’t get much easier, folks:
Cut out your feather shapes freehand and give them a few nicks and cuts angling towards the back of the feather. Fold it in the centre to give it a slight crease.
Stick it all together with some tape on the back, and tape to a toothpick (or cut up bamboo skewer in my case!)
and your delicate cupcake feathers are done! Ready to be devoured in a much less delicate fashion.
